Annual Open House

Saturday, March 3rd, 10am-12pm
(Rain, Snow, or Shine)

Here’s what will be going on:

  • Learn more about the programs that are offered
  • Meet Program Directors or Counselors from all of our summer programs
  • Campus & Facility tours
  • Games & Activities: carpetball, 30-foot indoor climbing wall (for those 8 years old and up), indoor & outdoor games (weather-permitting)
  • Refreshments available throughout
  • Registration information and sign-up available
  • The open house will end after everyone leaves. We expect this to be between 12 and 1, but you are welcome to stay until you’ve learned all you want about Camp ACC.

Who is this for?
We want everyone to come out, whether you’ve been to camp or not. People new to the camp will learn all about what we offer, and those “Camp ACC Veterans” will still want to see what is new and learn about programs you haven’t attended. Besides we need you to tell your friends what a great place Camp ACC is.

What if the weather is bad?
Rain/snow or shine, we will open the doors for you. Due to how busy the camp remains with retreats, we can’t reschedule for another date, so if it’s cold we’ll just build a nice fire, put on lot’s of hot chocolate and have a great time anyway.

Save $10
If you bring a friend, who has never been a camper at ACC to Open House, you’ll receive a $10 discount. And, if they sign up, they also get a $10 discount for attending Open House. All you have to do is show up, how cool is that!
This is not a coupon. Coupons will only be handed out at Open House on March 3rd.

This Saturday, July 9th, 11:00 am – 4:00 pm

We’re hosting a free day of fun this Saturday.  The entire campus will be open for your enjoyment – Splash Cove, both Zip Lines, The Equalizer, and the 30-foot indoor climbing wall.  There will also be inflatable games and the ballfield & gym will be open for camp games.

Concessions will be available for purchase at the Canteen and the Cabana. We’ll have grilled hamburgers and hot dogs available for purchase as well.

Come join the fun, tour the facilities, go on a nature walk through the woods and enjoy a picnic on the grounds. We’re only half-way through the summer, so there are still camps available for all ages. What a great way to help our young people catch the excitement of camp!

Please call or email any questions. Can’t wait to see you all on Saturday!

What the protocol is for extreme weather? June 20, 2011

Looks like we’ve got some wet and potentially rough weather ahead of us this week. We do have plans in place to respond to weather threats, but it is not posted formally anywhere.  This morning we got an email from a camper’s mom, and I thought I’d share her email and the response.  We’ll also have this as a part of the “FAQ” on the camp website soon.  If you have any further questions, please feel free to email us – aaron@campacc.com.

Mom’s email: “Hi Julie!  Dropped [my daughter] off at camp yesterday.  She is super excited in spite of the rainy yucky weather.  I checked the forecast again this morning and am a little (OK, more than a little, but trying to be a relaxed faith-filled Mom) concerned about what is headed your way, especially Wednesday.  Just wondering what the protocol is for extreme weather……..safety measures most importantly.
Thanks,
Cathy”

Our response: “I have attached our *Emergency Response Plan and you’ll see that in the event of severe weather everyone is directed to the gym to await further instructions.

Because camp activities are spread out all over the campus, our first concern regarding any sort of threat is to account for all campers, counselors & staff. So, we bring them to the gym first to assure that everyone is accounted for.

Once everyone is accounted for we respond specifically to the threat.  Most weather threats in our area are going to be thunderstorms.  If they are not accompanied by extremely high winds and/or the possibility of tornados, we will keep everyone in the main building until the storm passes.  If there are high winds or the chance of a tornado, at the soonest safe point in time, we will move everyone to their respective dorms where they will be asked to sit in the center hallways in a crouched position until the threat is over.  If a safe point in time does not present itself, we would move everyone into the kitchen, which is the centermost point of the main building.”

*The copy of the ERP given here is only the portion that serves as a guide for the volunteer Program Staff who are leading the activities for the campers.  So, if you are wondering if there is a more detailed plan, yes there is.  There is a more detailed section for paid summer staff that pertains to the behind the scenes work they will do during an emergency, including search zones, radio codes, team assignments,  and other protocols.

Bless a Child by Sending Them to Camp April 7, 2011

Every year we have many campers whose families share that they cannot afford to send their children to camp without assistance. We are happy to assist in any way we can because we never want finances to hinder a child attending camp.

The only way we can assist these families is through money donated to our scholarship fund. All of the money donated to the camp goes to further the ministry of reaching young people with the message of Christ, but donations to the scholarship fund go directly to helping a child attend, who would not be able to otherwise.

Would you please prayerfully consider a donation to our scholarship fund and provide a blessing to our camper families? No gift amount is too small or too large.

You can donate online at the camp website, or mail a check to:

Camp ACC
512 Cross Circle
Unicoi, TN 37692

Either way you choose to donate, please be sure to note that your desire for this donation is for the “Camp ACC Scholarship Fund”.  Thank you for considering this and for your gift.

New Camps Added – Junior Wilderness!

Register Today!

We are looking forward to another great summer. After the jump, you will find our full schedule for 2011 (you can also see it anytime on the camp website). We are really excited about all of next summer, but we are particularly excited about the addition of Junior Wilderness. These camps will be similar to our Wilderness camps for our older students. The main two differences here are that the campers will camp on Camp ACC’s property every night, and each day’s activity – while still being adventurous – will be designed specifically for the younger student.

Keep your eye on the camp website and this blog for an announcement regarding the addition of a College Wilderness trip like the one we took to the Grand Canyon in 2009. We are trying to put together a trip that will meet or exceed that trip. This takes a little more planing, so that announcement should come in the next month or two.

To read all about our programs (TruthQuest, Core, Wilderness, Summit, & Pathway) or register for camp, visit the camp website at www.campacc.com

U. Grant Trivett III

U. Grant Trivett III

Many camp supporters and families recognize the name Trivett as one attached to the ministry of Appalachian Christian Camp.  In 1998, U. G. and Violet Trivett donated Brookside Dormitory, which provided the catalyst for the effort to build Laurel Ridge Dormitory and Red Oak Lodge.

Their son, Grant, and his family have also been faithful supporters of the camp for many years now. We are sad to say that Grant completed his earthly journey this fall, but we rejoice knowing that he is home. Read more

Eddie and Billye Joyce Fine

Eddie and Billye Joyce Fine

We are very pleased to announce the institution of a new endowment to provide scholarships for children and youth attending ACC. Dr. Eddie Fine and his wife, Dr. Billye Joyce Fine, graciously made the initial gift to fully fund this endowment, so that proceeds can be used as early as next year.

Eddie and Billye Joyce served as counselors at Appalachian Christian Camp while they were students at Milligan College.  It was at camp that Eddie made the decision to become a minister.  After graduation, they moved to - Read more>
